Developped in 2004 and conceived by company partner I.LOG – Iniziative Logistiche with the engineering support of Metrocargo Automazioni, Metrocargo is an innovative loading/unloading system which allows a faster transfer of containers and unit loads from one train to another train (or to a truck) in horizontal mode. Complete automation, quickness, adaptability to any kind of train and container size, low environmental impact and high security are the most valuable assets of Metrocargo technology.
Metrocargo can be installed under the catenary along the rail tracks: that eliminates the need for any shunting activities and their related time and costs.
Moreover, the possibility to effect on the composing of the train through Metrocargo reduces many problems connected to rail transport, which gets closer to the «network approach» typical of passengers transport.
In particular, with Metrocargo the following performances can be reached:

• 3 minutes for the loading/unloading of each unit load
• less than 40 minutes for the loading/unloading of an entire freight train
• up to 18 loaded/unloaded trains per day
• 1 hour for stop of the train (VS. 12 hours with traditional solutions)
• 50 KW of installed power for each module (VS up to 1 MW of installed power with traditional solutions)
• less than 30 meters of lateral space required for the installation
• terminal’s loading capacity per day of 2.400 TEUs (VS. 400 TEUs with traditional solutions)
